Spicy Masala Poha for Breakfast


It’s been a long time since my last post. I would love to start a fresh. When I was little the first recipe that I learnt was Poha, yes yes you heard it right and I accept that I love it. I love having them in breakfast, it is my mom’s recipe and I have rarely seen anyone else with this similar recipe. Poha is the name of recipe which is made with various ingredients and Chivada (flattened rice). They are easy to cook and do not take a lot of efforts to cook.

I am sure you must have seen a lot of recipes of Poha but the one I am going to share is way different, spicy and tasty.
The main ingredients of poha are groundnuts; mustard seeds and curry leaves but this one has none. That is what makes it so different; the ingredients I use will change the whole taste and look of the dish.
If you are bored with the same old school poha, then go for the new spicy breakfast.
Ingredients:
  • Refine Oil 2 Tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - a pinch
  • Onion - One medium size
  • Potato - One medium size
  • Tomato - One medium size
  • Dry poha - Two small bowls
  • Green Chillie - 3-4
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Chivada/Chiwada - Flattened Rice
Let's start with the recipe:
First of all chop Onion, Potato, Tomato and Green Chilli in small dice shape
Keep the vegetables aside and take the chivada/chiwada/flattened rice in a wired basket so that we can wash the chiwada and it will get soft and ready to cook. Add the salt to taste. And never add turmeric powder wit the washed chivada.


Then take 2 table spoons of refine oil in Saute pan or Kadai when the oil is heated add cumin seeds
Now add diced potato in the pan and saute for 2 mins on high flame. The potatoes are diced in small pieces so they will be cooked pretty fast.


 Keep the flame high and add diced green chilli and onion in the pan, sautĂ© them till onion become transparent. SautĂ© the mix so that it doesn't get burnt or stick to pan.
 Now add diced tomato into the mix. We add ingredients one by one so that they can get cooked easy and have the perfect aroma.

Now mix them well and let them sit for 2 mins so that tomato can get cooked. It will look like this
Now the spicy mix is ready and we will add the chiwada in it and mix them well.

Its ready now, Serve it with the spicy namkeen or sprinkle some lemon.
You can add various ingredients to make it different in taste like carrot, pepper bells, peas  etc.
